Jan Matulka:Global Modernist 1/14/06 to 3/26/06
Jan Matulka: Global Modernist January 14 thru March 26, 2006 Concurrent with the Blanche Lazzell, the exhibition Jan Matulka: Global Modernist will demonstrate the importance and contributions of one of the earliest pioneers of American Modernism. Organized by the Tomas McCormick Gallery of Chicago, this traveling exhibition of 60 paintings, drawings and prints is the first comprehensive review of Matulka’s oeuvre in the last fifty years. Like Lazzell, Jan Matulka’s paintings- ranged from the traditional to the abstract, and are a measure of the dynamism of American art during the 1920s and the 1930s. Additionally, through his teaching, Matulka was able to interpret this artistic evolution for many of the aspiring artists of the time.
